Soft and sweet—that's what I think of when I think of peaches! Soft accurately describes the outside of a peach, of course, with that coating of fuzzy down, but soft also describes the experience of tasting a peach. When the fruit is perfectly ripe, each bite is juicy and luscious.
Are you wondering if a soft peachy flavor could be delicious in a tequila-filled margarita? Well, the answer is yes—a Peach Margarita is a sublimely tasty twist on this favorite spring and summertime drink. (I mean, if I'm being honest, margaritas are delectable year-round, but the refreshing and fruity flavor is especially nice when so dang hot outside!)
My fresh Peach margarita recipe blends a quicky, homemade peach nectar with margarita staples: tequila, triple sec, and ice.
A peachy way to celebrate New England peaches
Did you know that peaches can be grown in New England? Well, not everywhere in New England—some spots get just way too cold in the winter for peach trees to survive, or if they do survive, to thrive season after season. And even in warmer pockets, one of the delights of this region is that there's always the risk of a late-season killing frost or snow storm.
For areas in the six states that fall in USDA grow zone 5 or higher, peaches are indeed possible. Keep an eye out for social posts and ads from farms and orchards—July through August, peach growers will have fresh peaches for you to pick and sneakily eat under their trees.
This drink is a lovely way to celebrate the brief appearance of Northern peaches.
Why you'll love this margarita
Margaritas made with premixed, over-sweet, over-sour mixers just can't compete with those made with fresh fruit, and that's especially true here. Peach is such a beautiful flavor, and this drink puts it front and center.
The base of Peach Margaritas is a sweet peach nectar made on the stove and then chilled. You'll love this—the nectar simmers up in about 10 minutes! And I have a handy trick in the recipe card to get that nectar to chill quickly. The nectar is mixed with tequila, orange liqueur, and ice.
The recipe makes two drinks—perfect to treat yourself and a lucky duck of a friend to a sweet sipper. (Or, I suppose, you can drink them both yourself!) There is also an option in the recipe to make a big batch in a pitcher to treat the whole crew.
The glass rims get dipped not in salt but in sugar!
Peach margarita garnish options
I like to add a slice of fresh peach to each Peach Margarita. A slice of fresh orange is also a great garnish. Edible flowers are quite pretty in this cocktail—try violets, lilacs, or calendula.
Another idea is to thread fresh blueberries on cocktail picks and add them to each glass. The blue fruit and orange drink are striking together!

🔪 How to make a homemade Peach Margarita
Peach Margarita ingredients:
- Peaches: Choose ripe peaches, which should give a little when gently pressed. You can also use frozen peaches if fresh ones are not available.
- Sugar: Granulated sugar goes into the peach nectar and also goes on the rims of the glasses.
- Lemon juice: Just a little lemon juice helps balance the sweetness of this drink.
- Tequila: Use silver or blanco tequila, a variety that has a clean, lightly sweet flavor.
- Triple sec: This is an orange liqueur that's a common ingredient in margaritas, and the flavor goes really well with peach.
- Ice: These margaritas are on the rocks. Use regular ice cubes or try cocktail spheres or cubes which melt more slowly.
- Orange juice: You only need a little juice to coat the rims with sugar. If you don't have OJ, you can use simple syrup instead.
- Step 1-Make the peach nectar: Simmer sliced peaches with sugar and lemon juice for about six minutes. Then blend the mixture to make a pureed peach nectar. Chill the nectar before making the drinks.
- Step 2-Dip the rims: Dip the rims of two cocktail glasses in orange juice, and then in granulated sugar.
- Step 3-Shake the drinks: Pour the peach puree, tequila, and triple sec into a cocktail shaker along with ice. Shake everything well until the mixture is cold.
- Step 4-Assemble the drinks: Add ice cubes or cocktail ice to the glasses. Pour the chilled peach mixture into the glasses. Garnish each drink with a slice of fresh peach. Enjoy!
Tips:
- You'll have some peach nectar left over. Use it to make another round of drinks or another cocktail with fresh peaches—like a bellini! Enjoy peach nectar stirred into seltzer, blended with other juices, or whipped into a milkshake. The nectar can be stored in a covered container in the fridge for up to two weeks.
- You can make this drink with traditional margarita glasses, stemmed cocktail glasses, or short rocks glasses. Small mason jars are another option that I really like—they're inexpensive, versatile, and make a prettily rustic cocktail.
- Consider stashing your glasses in the freezer ahead of time to get them really cold for your drinks.
FAQs:
The favorite type of tequila for fruity margaritas like this one is silver or blanco tequila. This variety is aged for just a short time, so the flavor is very clean and crisp with a light sweetness. Tequilas that are aged longer, like reposado and añejo have a more distinct profile. While you can certainly use them in this cocktail, they're best enjoyed on the rocks or neat so you can really appreciate the flavors developed through aging.
I say, yes! Blanco tequila has a light flavor that pairs very well with all kinds of sweet fruit, and that includes peaches. Take a sip of this Peach Margarita and you'll be convinced.
Double or triple the recipe to have enough margarita mixture for your crew. Mix everything except the ice together in a pitcher; store the pitcher in the fridge. When you're ready to serve the drinks, coat the rims of the glasses, add ice to the pitcher, and set everything out for your guests to help themselves.
Pour the tequila, peach nectar, and triple sec into a blend along with four cups of ice. Blend everything on high until the mixture is slushy. Pour frozen Peach Margaritas into the prepared glasses and garnish.
Well, what do you think, sweet peach? Ready for a peachy cocktail? Me too!

Ingredients
For the peach nectar:
- 2 cups fresh or frozen peach slices (about 9-10 ounces)
- 1 cup water
- ⅔ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
For the margaritas:
- ¼ cup orange juice
- ¼ cup granulated sugar (for the rims)
- 4 ounces tequila Silver or blanco
- 1 ounce triple Sec orange liqueur
- Ice for the shaker and for the glasses
- Optional garnishes: fresh peach slices, edible flowers, orange slices, blueberries
Instructions
Make the peach nectar:
- Add the peaches to a medium saucepan along with the water, ⅔-cup of granulated sugar, and the lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce the heat slightly and simmer the mixture for another 8-9 minutes, until the peach slices are soft.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Transfer the mixture to a blender, and puree it until the nectar is completely smooth. Refrigerate the peach nectar for about an hour until it's completely chilled.
- Tip: To chill the peach nectar more quickly, pour it into a shallow metal baking dish or bowl, then refrigerate it. The metal pan will speed up the process.
Coat the rims:
- Pour the orange juice into a shallow dish that's wide enough to dip the glasses. Pour the ¼ cup of sugar into another shallow dish.
- Dip the rims of the glasses first in the orange juice, then dip the rims lightly into the sugar to coat the rims.
Assemble the drinks:
- Pour ⅔ cup of the chilled peach nectar, the tequila, and the triple Sec into a cocktail shaker along with ice. Cover and shake everything until the mixture is very cold, with frost appearing on the outside.
- Place ice cubes in each glass. Strain the margarita mixture into the glasses, dividing it equally between them.
- Add garnishes to the glasses if you like—a peach slice on each rim, or edible flowers floating in the drink. You can also put an orange slice on the rims, or add a cocktail pick with blueberries to each glass. Enjoy the drinks right away!
