My New England Kitchen Story

Collage of seven old family photos.

Growing up in Vermont in a family of passionate cooks and bakers, I discovered early on that food is a powerful way to build love and connection.

Some of my fondest memories are rooted in the kitchen: making spritz cookies with my sister, tasting my great-grandmother's famous baked beans, and marveling at the dozens of pies my grandmother made every Thanksgiving.

Four old photos of family members.

These cherished traditions inspired me to launch Hungry Enough To Eat Six in 2015. I wanted to create a space to share that same warmth and connection with others.

Here, I offer welcoming, New England-inspired comfort food and baking recipes, drawing from a lifetime of home cooking and my family's Irish heritage. Because I'm a self-taught cook and baker, making food for friends and family, I enjoy creating comforting, crowd-pleasing recipes without overly complex steps or unusual ingredients.

My goal is to give you dependable, from-scratch, New England-style recipes, so you can create a delicious table and still have plenty of time to make memories with those around it.

Where do you get inspiration for her recipes?

Seasonal flavors are always a great source of inspiration: whether a basket of freshly picked summer berries, fall apples in New England orchards, or the scent of holiday spices in the air, they get the creative juices flowing.

I get ideas from beloved dishes and flavors I enjoyed growing up in Vermont. Travels in New England and traditional Irish dishes from family recipes and my visits to Ireland also spark my imagination.

And of course, I get delicious ideas from friends and my fans here! I love hearing from readers about their favorite desserts, drinks, or dinners.

What does Nancy do in her downtime?

When I get out of the kitchen for a spell, I love spending time exploring New England and beyond with my husband, and we especially like visiting our kids and our grandson!

At home, some of my favorite shows are The Office, The Great British Baking Show, The Bear, Derry Girls, Doctor Who, Wednesday, The Outlaws, Rifftrax, MST3K, Ghosts, Poker Face, and Psych. Fave movies include Agatha Christie adaptations and marathon sessions of Marvel movies. The Knives Out movies with the intrepid Benoit Blanc are pretty much on a constant loop here! Some classics I love are Clue: The Movie, Noises Off, Wallace and Gromit movies, and To Catch A Thief.

My reading is always something delicious: cookbooks, ponderings, articles, and memoirs. Right now, I'm reading The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Gesine Bullock-Prado, Guillaume Long, Laurie Colwin, Tamar Adler, and Darina Allen are recent reads. I also love Agatha Christie's mysteries and anything about Julia Child.
