This is a snack mix that I created with my daughter in mind. She was away at college and college has many extremes: extremely intense classes, extremely late nights, and extreme amounts of stress.

To cope with all those extremes, college kids need extremely satisfying snacks for all hours of the day and night!

This Sweet Tooth Snack Mix hits the spot—the sweet spot. (When you're craving the salty, savory stuff, Spicy Barbecue Snack Mix will hit THAT spot.)

    Cinnamon in a jar.

    Why you'll love this recipe

This easy snack mix combines Chex cereal, pretzels, and almonds with a cinnamon-sugar blend, and the mixture is baked where it gets all toasty.

After baking, Cocoa Puffs, chocolate, and white chocolate join the fun to get melty and bring the mix together. And just for fun: sprinkles!

It's a cinch to make, especially if you're looking for a treat to make with kids. It's also a great treat to make as a food gift for the holidays or to send in a college care package.

🔪How to make Sweet Tooth Snack Mix

Whole almonds on a slate board.

    Ingredients

    • Chex Cereal: I use Rice Chex but you can use other types, too.
    • Mini Pretzels: They give the mix extra crunch and a little salt.
    • Almonds: Chopped for nuttiness in the snack mix.
    • Brown Sugar: I did tell you this is a sweet snack mix!
    • Butter: The mixture gets tossed with melted butter before baking.
    • Cinnamon: Just a little to add flavor during baking.
    • Chocolate chips: Semisweet and white.
    • Rainbow Sprinkles: You can also use other colors, especially for holidays.

    Step 1: Combine ingredients

Toss the cereal, pretzels, almonds, sugar, cinnamon, and butter together in a large bowl.

Chex cereal and chopped almonds on a baking sheet.

    Step 2: Bake

Spread the mixture on a baking sheet and bake to make it toasty and golden.

Step 3: Add the chocolate and sprinkles

Scoop the warm snack mix into a heatproof bowl and add the Cocoa Puffs, chocolate chips, and sprinkles. Stir to combine everything and get the chocolates good and melty. Let it cool and then it's ready to serve.

    Tips:

    • I like Rice Chex in this recipe, but you can try other flavors, too.
    • Try other colors of sprinkles, especially to make this snack mix for the holidays.
    • Let the mixture cool completely before sealing it into bags or boxes to store, or to give as gifts.

    Ingredients

    • 4 cups Rice Chex cereal
    • 1 cup salted mini pretzels
    • 1 cup chopped almonds
    • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
    • ¼ cup butter, melted
    • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1 cup Cocoa Puffs cereal
    • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
    • 1 cup white chocolate chips
    • ½ cup rainbow sprinkles (or other sprinkle colors)

    Instructions

    Combine the ingredients:

    • Preheat the oven to 300° F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Combine the Rice Chex with the pretzels and chopped almonds in a large, heatproof bowl. Add in the brown sugar, melted butter and cinnamon and stir to coat everything in the butter.
    • Spread the mixture evenly on the prepared baking sheet. (Keep the large bowl aside.)
    • Bake the mixture for a total of 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.

    Add the remaining ingredients:

    • Remove the sheet from the oven and immediately transfer the warm mixture back into the large bowl. (Keep the lined baking sheet handy.)
    • Add the Cocoa Puffs, semisweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, and half of the sprinkles to the bowl. Let the mixture sit for one minute.
    • Stir the mixture gently: the chocolates will become melty and bring the snack mix together into tasty clumps. ** Don't overmix however, or the white chocolate and sprinkles will disappear.
    • Spread the mixture out onto a lined baking sheet, and scatter the remaining sprinkles over the top. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
    • Transfer the snack mix to a serving bowl: it's ready to eat.
    • The snack mix can be stored in a sealed container for up to 5 days.
    • Makes about 6 cups.
