I want to take a moment to acknowledge the sad news that on Wednesday of this week Yogi Berra, a New York Yankee and one of the greatest catchers of all time, passed away at the age of 90.
Although I am not a Yankees fan, I do enjoy learning about the history and stories of baseball's greats, and I mostly learn these from my husband, who has an amazing, encyclopedic recall of all things baseball. Where the greats of baseball are concerned, Berra was certainly one of them.
In addition to his tremendous, lifelong contributions to the game (16 years playing with the Yankees, appearing in 14 World Series with the Yankees, ten of which ended in wins, and being named an All-Star 18 times), Berra was just as well known for his sense of humor and hilarious quips. One of those quips is particularly dear to me, as it gave me the name of my blog!
